Esophageal Duplication Cyst
Unknown Chest Case 1
Presentation
50 y/o man with abdominal pain.
Image Findings
Oval well circumscribed superior mediastinal mass adjacent to the esophagus. High intensity on T2-weighted image and low intensity on T1-weighted image. No spinal abnormalities were seen. Esophagogram (not shown) showed smooth extrinsic mass effect on right side of upper esophagus.
Differential Diagnosis
- Neurenteric Cyst
- Bronchogenic Cyst
Discussion
Esophageal duplication cysts may be found incidentally for work up of unrelated symptoms as is likely in this case. Occasionally, gastric mucosa within the cyst may result in bleeding. Neurenteric cysts are usually associated with skeletal abnormalities.
