79 y/o man with 3 months or weight loss (30 lb) and recent onset of right sided abdominal pain.




The upper GI series and CT scan show a mass in the gastric cardia. The Ct scan also shows at least one liver metastasis as well as extensive lymphadenopathy in the retroperitoneum. The bone scan shows focal areas of increased activity in the posterior right 10th rib and the mid right femur suspicious for metastases
Malignant Carcinoid of the Stomach with metastases
Approximately 68% of carcinoid tumors are found in the GI tract and of these 9% are found in the stomach. Most GI carcinoid tumors are found within the ileum (about 40%). 13% of patients have metastases at time of diagnosis with an overall 5 year survival rate of 67%. 24% of patients have more than one tumor.
